Welcome to the new Symphony of the Redwoods blog. Marion Crombie and occasionally I (Alex Pierangeli) will be posting interesting facts, factoids and incidents here from now on. We’ll blog about coming events, music, people, history and thoughts. We’ll post some pix from the past and the current season and maybe some video clips as well.
Marion Crombie plays the viola in our orchestra. She spends half of every year at her home in England and the other half of the year — the Symphony of the Redwoods season — here on the Mendocino Coast.
With Marcia Sloane, our principal cellist, Marion is responsible for the wonderful Navarro River String Camp, a fun and intensive musical retreat for beginning and intermediate adult players of violin, viola and cello. The camp — held at the Angela Center in Santa Rosa in March and at St Dorothy’s Rest, Camp Meeker, in August — is highly successful, having just completed its eleventh year of instruction and encouragement.
I’m the administrative arm of the Symphony and live here on the coast permanently (though I lived in England for nearly two decades). I’ll contribute now and again, but this is Marion’s baby.
