This weekend I’ll be heading down to the Angela Center in Santa Rosa for the March session of Navarro River String Camp, one of the activities that comes under the umbrella of the Symphony of the Redwoods. This camp was created by cellist Marcia Sloane and yours truly especially for beginning and intermediate adult string players (violin, viola, and cello). Navarro River String Camp provides an opportunity for participants to gain ensemble experience and enjoy an intensive musical retreat in northern California.
There are many opportunities for more experienced adult amateurs to play chamber music, but very few for beginning and intermediate players. We have found this to be a very rewarding group of people to work with, and clearly there is a big demand – the camp has grown rapidly and now fills (with 64 participants) in just a couple of weeks after registration opens.
