Final Concerts

Last weekend saw the climax of the Symphony of the Redwoods season, with concerts  in Cotton Auditorium, Fort Bragg, on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. All three pieces were very warmly received by the audience, but I think the  greatest enthusiasm was shown for the Grieg Piano Concerto, largely due to the spellbinding performance by pianist James d’Leon. It’s always interesting as an orchestral player to accompany a soloist, and sometimes we get a very different impression from within the orchestra to the impression that the audience gets. However, this time I think we were all in agreement. He was charming and easy to get on with in rehearsal, played the piece with flawless technique and moreover a great rhythmic sense,  which was inspiring to the orchestra. We’re so lucky to have music making of this caliber right here on the North Coast.

Following the final performance there was a celebration at the Senior Center to thank all our donors and volunteers. We couldn’t have done it without you – thank you!

Although the concerts are finished for this season, the work behind the scenes never stops!  The Symphony Board met on Monday night to continue planning for next season……watch this space!

  1. We are very lucky to have an orchestra and such fine soloists. And I enjoy your blog. Thank you for the insights!
