Music-Streaming Service Reveals Update That Takes Users Out of Their Comfort Zone

Spotify, the world’s largest subscription music-streaming service, announced a new addition to their platform. Users now have the option for Spotify to select music for them based on time of day, activities and current mood, rather than genre and musical taste. (Source)

This is an attempt to expose subscribers to types of music they wouldn’t necessary choose on their own, bringing them out of their musical ruts. Premade playlists such as “Music for Studying,” “Concentration and Focus,” and “Productive Morning” are examples of options that are part of the recent update and offer lyric-free tunes, particularly classical pieces.

With over 75 million active users, this seven year old streaming service is demonstrating “[they] understand that how music fits into [their users lives] is as powerful as the music itself.” (Source)
